Full Moon in Leo

About the moon sign: "The Moon changes sign every 2 1/2 days; her sign describes how best to work with one another; how mind and body communicate and tint the emotional tenor of our day. The Moon sign we were born under records the history of our female lineage, and emotional training, and describes what makes us feel at home. We need to cooperate with our Moon's prime directives to walk our path in harmony." (We'Moon 07 Journal)

The moon is in leo on both Thursday and Friday. When the moon is in leo we are called to express ourselves and enter the spotlight. When I think of Leo, I think of my son... big giant cheesy smiles for the camera, putting on the drama and charm, and enjoying all of the attention. An important reminder for this time is to stick to your own personal truth and story, letting the beauty shine outward from that. Anyone else doing that smile would be fake- but for alex, it's his signature. What is your signature beauty? During the full moon this month, remember this: "Beauty is Leo medicine; show yourself and your work to its best advantage." (We'Moon 07 Gaia Rhythms for Women)

Imbolc/Mid-Winter Ritual

This is a time for celebration, prophecy, purification, initiation. Holidays included are: Candlemas (Christian), New Year (Tibetan, Chinese, Korean, Iroquois), Ground Hog's Day (American), Tu Bi-Shevat (Jewish), and Imbolc (Pagan).

(a side note here for those connected with our family- the korean new year celebration occurs at the coming new moon! For those who would like more information on that, I lead you to the following sites:http://www.clickasia.co.kr/about/h0101.htm http://www.familyculture.com/holidays/korean_new_year.htm )

Imbolc, as was discussed in the last journal, is a time of the year sacred to the Goddess Brigid. The following ritual and information comes from 365 Goddess a daily guide to the magic and inspiration of the goddess, Patricia Telesco:

Imbolc (Ireland)
Brigit

Themes: Health and Inspiration

Symbol: A Cauldron

About Brigit: Brigit is an Irish goddess known throughout Europe as "the bright one" because of her inspiriting beauty and fiery qualiities. Today is Brigit's festival in ireland because it's the traditional first day of spring here, when lingering winter shadows are banished by the sun's radiance . Anyone desiring fertility, health, or creativity should invoke Brigit's blessings today, as the ancients did.

To Do Today: During the winter months it's easy to get a case of the balhs or sniffles. Brigit comes to our aid by offering us teh spiritual elixer in her cauldron. Make yourself a nourishing broth today and serve it in a cauldron (a three legged bowl). If you don't have one, any cup or mug would do. Bless the broth by holdin your hand over the top, visualizing golden light filling the liquid and saying:

Brigit, hear my prayer and bless the cauldron (or cup) of inventiveness
Renew my body, inspire my heart
Throughout my life, your wholeness impart. So be it.

Drink the broth to internalize inspiration.
For health take any candles (a green (or blue!) one is ideal for healing) and carve nineteen crosses into it. The number nineteen and the symbol of the cross are both sacred to Brigit. Light this candle for a few minutes every day for the next nineteen days. or, you can let the candle burn for nineteen minutes instead.

Goddess Tarot

This month I found a new tarot deck. I love it! It is called "The Goddess Tarot- written/illustrated by Kris Waldherr". The following is a card for all to contemplate this month.

Freyja, Power

Traditionally this is the card of the emperor. Structure, form, power, responsibility, the number Four.

The following is quoted from The Goddess Tarot about the Goddess:

Freyja:
'Freyja, The Norse goddess of creativity, love, and beauty, expresses her power through her connection between the warring Aesir and the agriculturally peace- oriented Vanir- in this way she is mediator between war and peace. The Norse divided their gods and Goddesses into two groups, the Vanir and the Aesir. Worshiped during the agricultural Bronze age the peaceful Vanir lived as one with the earth as they coaxed food from its fertile soil. Unfortunately the Iron Age brought not only the first development of hunting tools and weapons, it also brought with it the combative Aesir, who declared war upon the Vanir. For the sake of peace the Vanir agreed to give the Aesir their beloved goddess of beauty, Freyja. In this way Freya became the link between the old world before iron tools and the new where power was often expressed in violence instead of through diplomacy and tolerance. She shows that true power lies in the ability to discriminate between aggression and passivity- and the ability to choose between them at the correct time. Meanings: the ability to use power wisely. The awareness of ones power. Meeting an authority figure or teacher who can help. The ability to lead and inspire others. Knowledge of how to 'work the system' without giving up important values or resorting to violence or deception.'

So this month questions to ask yourself are- How do you hold your own power? Where do you feel it in your body? For many it is in our center, our gut. Are you able to listen to yourself wisely and act through tolerance and love, not violence- to both yourself as well as others? When I read this I thought of the different sides of ourselves, maybe from our own upbringing or family commitments- and how do I maintain to be a peacemaker between all of my needs, not hurting myself. So this card can denote an internal strength, but this can also go out towards others. Maybe this month you will see yourself leading others, or you will find a teacher to guide you.

Life Purpose and Card to contemplate based on your Sun Sign:

I decided to do a tarot card for each sign this month, and also before each sign I wrote a bit about life purpose based on the sun sign which was copied from the We'Moon 07 Journal. I read it this month and thought it was a really great description and wanted to pass it on to you all:) If you don't know your sunsign, it is based upon the day you were born, so pick the sign below based on your birthdate following in the dates listed. Remember there is much more to astrology than sun sign, the sun sign focuses on our soul, while the moon on our body... although some will say the sun is more of what is outwardly, and the moon sign more of what is going on inside. The following information is based on your sun sign only.

Aquarius... (Jan 20-Feb 18)For those born with a sun sign in Aquarius, your purpose is to see the patterns of ideas, networks and human relations. Your challenge is to know what you feel and to build intimacy and collectivity.
Your card to learn from at this time: Temptation, the Goddess Nyai Loro Kidul. Traditionally this is the card of the devil. Be aware of strong pulls from the darkness- sensual, addictive desires. Gluttony, envy. Feeling a need to control or lacking self control or both.

Pisces... (Feb 18- March 20)Your purpose is to help us not be overwhelmed by emotion; to be brave enough to feel all. You teach us to seek, honor and eventually understand our dreams and visions.
Your card to learn from at this time: Ace of Pentacles Reversed... The beginnings of material success are not what they seem, or fulling coming to fruition. Possibly finding infertility in some way (physically in the body, or in other areas of life, like work). A need to look at what you define as success and how you yourself contribute to the undermining of it.

Aries... (March 20-April 20)Your purpose is found in your hoenst and directness. your challenge is not to be sidtracked by rebellion and reaction, but to stay on track- y our track, your purpose.
Your card to learn from at this time: Eight of Staves Reversed... Don't wait for others to make the first move, or your communication may be too late. A time to take the initiative regarding communication. Slow movement.

Taurus... (April 20- May 21)Your purpose is to breath life into form; remind us of the grounding power and comfort of our sense; help us root. Stubbornness and the search for security are your gifts and challenges.
Your card to learn from at this time: Five of Cups Reversed- You see that your glass is half full, you are beginning to see life is what you make of it. Drink to what you do have, and allow love and beauty to take root in your life.

Gemini... (May 21- June 21)You open our sense of possibilities. Your purpose is to be diverse without being scattered, to mobilize while remaining poised- like a spinning top whirling around a calm center.
Your card to learn from at this time: Nine of Staves Reversed- Time for a break, you are overworked or tired from your responsibilities. Take time out to regroup.... however do not use this as an escape to run from your responsibilities or deny work that needs to be done.

Cancer... (June 21-July 22)Your purpose is to find what nurtures yourself and the world. Familiar with deep emotional seas, you are able to teach us to dive. Your challenge is to risk believing in your oceanic strength.
Your card to learn from at this time: Contemplation, The Goddess Chang O. Traditionally this is the hermit card encouraging you to take time out to reflect and withdraw in order to gain knowledge of one's own divinity. A good time for a retreat alone, or to contemplate your life direction. Not a time for focusing on outer relationships.

Leo... (June 21-July 22)You light up the room and warm souls as long as you give as much firelight as you ask for yourself. your challenge is to illuminate with your attention, and not obscure with dramatic light.
Your card to learn from at this time: Four of Swords. Take a time out to rest and heal. You may have been ill, or overextended, but it is now a time for contemplation, dreams, and going within. This is fitting with the full moon being in your sign this month, the return of the lunar year to your own birth. Take a break from the crowd and find solitude.

Virgo... (Aug 23- Sept 23)Your purpose is to understand with both empathy and intellect. You ask us to really think, not skim the surface; sort wheat from chaff. Your challenge is to stay focused not on dross, but on solutions.
Your card to learn from at this time: Three of Swords Reversed... traditionally a card of loss and heartbreak, this card reversed shows how you can get caught up in the drama instead of the actual feelings of loss. Remember to pay attention to the truth and feelings, not what is necessarily easier, or gives you attention.

Libra... (Sept 23- Oct 23)Your purpose is to restore balance. You see all options and help us know our hearts. You prefer peaceful negotiations but fight fo fairness. Your challenge is to be as fair to yourself as to others.
Your card to learn from at this time: Six of Staves Reversed- Upright this card signals victory, but reversed it isn't clear... you may have won the battle but there is no reward or acknowledgment. Possibly because those around you or you yourself do not see it. Remember to honor yourself for your strengths and accomplishments.

Scorpio... (Oct 23- Nov 22)Your purpose is to use your intense, laser -like focus and inquisitiveness to search out secrets and solutions, reminding us that sex is a mystery school. Your challenge is to balance seriousness with breadth and versatility.
Your card to learn from at this time: Prince of Cups- an invitation coming to you, or an openness to your own intuition. A gentle spirit, possibly a child, or guidance coming from your dreams.

Sagittarius... (Nov 22- Dec 21)Your purpose is to speak truth. Your challenge is to do so with compassion and practical follow-through. Curiousity of mind and body may lead you on a lifetime's journey; you open minds, talk to strangers, explore distant lands and teach us to laugh at ourselves along the way.
Your card to learn from at this time: Queen of Cups. Emotional fulfillment. A beautiful card showing a woman who has all she needs and is enjoying it, love, emotion, beauty and is an inspiration to others.

Capricorn... (Dec 21-Jan 20)Your purpose is to take a dream and bring it into form with kindness, integrity, leadership and organization; your challenge is to make sure you have a worthy goal, a good mountain to climb and, occasionally to stop and savor the view.
Your card to learn from at this time: Four of Pentacles, this is a lovely card showing abundance and material or physical wealth. A time of self satisfaction and richness to life. You may find contentment in what you have, and very likely more will be provided.
